Academic Programme
LBU, since its inception, has planned to run academic programmes from the top level down to the bottom level. As such, Ph.D. programme is being launched. So far thirty five students have applied for Ph.D. programme. Besides, many other monks & nuns have approached the University for Enrollment. Its aim is to run LBU Ph.D. programme to produce fully enlightened scholars in order to meet the requirement of qualified teaching manpower in the University.
The Master Plan of LBU envisages a Central Campus as the centre of excellence in Tenuhawa VDC, Ward No 8 near Parsa Chowk, Lumbini.
The Master Plan of LBU includes in its initial phase Departments given below:
- Department of Theravada Buddhism
- Department of Mahayana Buddhism
- Department of Vajrayana Buddhism
- Buddhology Department - ( Buddhist History, Philosophy, Culture and Archaeology including practical and theoretical courses as optional courses)
- Department of Languages and Scripts (Sanskrit, Pali, Tibetan, Nepal Bhasa etc.)
Akhil Nepal Bhikshu Mahasangh (All Nepal Federation of Monks) is willing to give a letter of intent to LBU for establishing Mahayana Dept. Like wise, Vishwa Shanti Vihara of New Baneswor (World Peace Monastery) is willing to manage Theravada Buddhist Dept. with the technical and academic guidance of LBU and Academic and Research Council. Vajrayana Dept. is being co-ordinated by the Association of Vajrayana Buddhist & Mahaviharas Nepal (AVBM). Buddhology Dept. and the Dept of Languages and Scripts related to Buddhism will be run by LBU itself.
The Central Campus as the centre of excellence has planned to run the three departments i.e. of Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana in Lumbini and the other two departments are being planned to becme operational at Devadaha, Rupandehi district.
A Liaison Office of LBU is located at Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu which co-ordinates all the activities of LBU.
LBU has been conducting seminars and interaction programmes with the help of concerned experts for the help of resource material development and curricula formulation. So far several seminars have been organized with the support of many organisations and intellectuals in the related areas.
Faculty of Buddhism
LBU, in its initial phase, is operating the Faculty of Buddhism at the Central Campus with its own subject committees.
The Faculty has planned to run
- • Ph.D. course
- Master level course and Bachelor level courses on Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana
- Buddhology courses on languages and scripts relating to Buddhist scriptures
- Short term courses on meditation
- Specialized courses for monks & nuns
- Tailor made courses as per demand of the Buddhist communities (local as well as international)
- Astrology course
- Course on herbal medicine
- Lecture programmes on feast and festivals related to Buddhism
Centre for International Relations
Centre for International Relations is led by Vice Chancellor of LBU. It\'s main activities are carried out by the office of the Registrar. It aims at establishing and developing academic relationship with universities and educational institutions at the international level for the promotion of Buddhism including research relating to Buddhism. Developing LBU as the centre of intellectual interaction among the Buddhist scholars is one of the objectives of this Centre. Its major functions are:
- To establish collaborative programmes and to monitor and evaluate programmes under bilateral and multilateral agreements and to provide necessary assistance:
- To assist in the exchange of international student programmes and faculty members and arrange their placement and affiliation as well as provide necessary academic information, including visa formalities for the exchange of visits:
- To organize international seminars and conferences and promote exchange of publications:
- To help foreign researchers get affiliation with LBU, and
- To seek financial assistance for institutional as well as academic development.
Curriculum Development Division
Curriculum Development Division is involved in developing LBU academic curricula. Each subject committee is responsible for upgrading, monitoring and evaluating the syllabus. It is also empowered to select relevant text books and other teaching materials for use in LBU.
Examination Division
One of the major aims of this office is to evaluate the students according to their performance. The office functions
- to conduct standard examinations at all levels,
- to formulate academic calendar, and
- to deal with matters relating to evaluation.
